The Scenic Rim Trail- By Spicers is different to any other guided multi-day walk worldwide. We pride ourselves on being the best in the business, with world-class hiking trails, unique, luxury accommodation, fine food and wine and a knowledgeable, passionate and experienced team to guide you. We feel very privileged to be able to guide you through this incredible region, and provide you with the local history and point out the different plant and animal species along the way.
Throughout the experience, you will explore countless different types of eco-systems and environments that are home to rare and endangered plant and animal species local to the Scenic Rim. The majority of our trails are located on private property owned by the Turner family. Most of this has been kept as a nature refuge for conservation reasons to ensure its existence future generations enjoy it too. The trail provides a unique and rare look into the region that to this date only a handful of people have experienced.
Mount Mitchell, the trail we explore on the first day of the Scenic Rim Trail, is located in the Main Range National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. This national park includes the most extensive areas of subtropical rainforests worldwide, expansive areas of warm temperate rainforests and nearly all of the Antarctic Beech cool temperate rainforests. Few places on earth contain so many plant and animal species which remain relatively unchanged from their ancestors in the fossil record.
‘The Gondwana Rainforests of Australia is a serial property comprising the major remaining areas of rainforests in Southeast Queensland and Northeast New South Wales. It represents outstanding examples of major stages of earth’s evolutionary history, ongoing geological and biological process, and exceptional biological diversity. A wide range of plant and animal lineage and communities with ancient origins in Gondwana, many of which are restricted largely or entirely to the Gondwana Rainforests, survive in this collection of reserves. The Gondwana Rainforests also provide the principal habitat for many threatened species of plants and animals.’
– Brief synthesis of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia as inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The World Heritage status of the region was created and negotiated initially in 1986, with the area extended in 1994. –
